DHF Newsletter – Issue #001

Dear Supporters and Friends,

The Darren Hart Foundation is delighted to share with you the latest newsletter, which gives an update of our recent activities and successes of projects making a difference in various communities here in Kenya. A little update on what we have been up to from January to the past month:

1. Empowering children at Kaloleni Children’s Home

We had a wonderful visit to the Kaloleni Children’s Home in South-B, Nairobi, where we were privileged to share our “My Body is My Body Program” with them. This was an initiative on raising awareness regarding self-awareness and protection of rights, thanks to Bhardwaj Welfare Trust and Mama Gift’s support.

2. Supporting Uhuyi Primary School Education

In collaboration with Seline Cares Foundation, Ecobana, Metacloud X, and One World Nexus, donations were made to Uhuyi Primary School in Siaya County items like sanitary pads, exercise books, and pens. This effort was, therefore, not just for the provision of their immediate needs for education but also a way of sparking hope into them that empowers them.

3. Compassion Day with University of Nairobi

We marked Compassion Day by joining the University of Nairobi and other partners in donating clothes and essential items to needy students so that warmth and kindness can be spread in underprivileged communities.

4. Environmental Conversation Initiatives

This was further deposited in our stance in terms of environmental stewardship by intensive cleanup and tree-planting exercises in Kitengela road and Uhuru Gardens Primary. Opening an illegal dumpsite with 400 trees, together with Shree Siddhi Vinayak Ganesh Mahotsav, KEPRO, Clean Up Kenya, Kenya Red Cross, We Forest International, the Scouts, and CBOs working at the grassroots level brought us closer to sharing sustainable practices and involving communities.

5. Food for Flood Victims in Kayole-Soweto

In partnership with the Amazing Grace Bawo Foundation, we provided clothing and shoes to flood victims in Kayole-Soweto, which really put out the difference that teaming up makes in community service and disaster relief operations.

6. Promote Recycling and Environmental Awareness

Dawn To Glow International organized an educative session on plastic recycling and further participated in tree planting to commemorate National Tree Planting Day, putting out information pertaining to sustainability and the environment.

7. World Menstrual Hygiene Day We raised awareness on World Menstrual Hygiene

We successfully conducted an impactful event at Carson Academy in Mukuru Kwa Njenga slum, Nairobi, Kenya, to raise awareness for the upcoming World Menstrual Hygiene Day. This event marked a significant effort to address the pressing issue of menstrual hygiene among young mothers and school-going girls in the area. The foundation distributed sanitary pads and clothes to over 400 beneficiaries, ensuring they have access to essential hygiene products and information. The initiative aimed not only to provide immediate support but also to educate young women on the importance of menstrual health, thereby empowering them to take charge of their well-being. In a bid to promote inclusivity and holistic support, the foundation extended its efforts to the boy child by donating two brand-new leather first-class balls and clothes, fostering an environment of inclusivity and promoting the well-being of all genders within the community.

This successful event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of various partners and supporters. A heartfelt appreciation goes out to our Menstrual Health Hygiene Coordinator, Ms. Winnie Wambaa, for her leadership and dedication. We also extend our gratitude to the Global Goodwill Ambassadors Foundation, the main sponsor, whose generous support was instrumental in bringing this initiative to life. Additionally, we acknowledge AIESEC at the University of Nairobi, all our volunteers, supporters, and well-wishers who contributed their time and resources to make this event a resounding success. Together, these collaborative efforts exemplify the power of community-driven initiatives in creating positive change. As we look forward to our upcoming environmental event in June 2024, we remain committed to making a difference and improving lives through continued support and advocacy.

8. Activities for World Environment Day

We mobilized volunteers to clear waste and clear the sewer lines at Carson Academy in Mukuru kwa Njenga slum on World Environment Day, where we partnered with Essenspark Limited and others. Moreover, we utilized opportunities for tree planting towards the beautification of the environment for sustainable living purposes.

We would like to sincerely thank all of our partners, volunteers, and supporters who make enabling these initiatives possible. Together we are making a difference to ensure that so many lives are impacted positively toward the creation of a better future for more sustainable communities here in Kenya.
